Topological terms on topological defects: A quantum Monte Carlo study

چکیده
Dirac fermions in $2+1$ dimensions with dynamically generated anticommuting SO(3) antiferromagnetic (AFM) and Z$_2$ Kekul\'e valence-bond solid (KVBS) masses map onto a field theory topological $\theta$-term. This term provides mechanism for continuous phase transitions between different symmetry-broken states: defects of one carry the charge other proliferate at transition. The $\theta$-term implies that domain wall KVBS order parameter harbors spin-$1/2$ Heisenberg chain, as described by $1+1$ dimensional non-linear sigma model $\theta = \pi$. Using pinning fields to stabilize wall, we show our auxiliary-field quantum Monte Carlo simulations indeed support emergence chain defect. concept can be generalized higher where SO(4) or SO(5) theories terms are realized wall.

Phase transitions in two planar lattice models and topological defects: a Monte Carlo study.
Monte Carlo simulation has been performed in the planar P2 and P4 models to investigate the effects of the suppression of topological defects on the phase transition exhibited by these models. Suppression of the 1/2 defects on the square plaquettes in the P2 model leads to complete elimination of the phase transition observed in this model. However, in the P4 model, on suppressing the single 1/...
متن کاملMonte Carlo Study of Topological Defects in the 3D Heisenberg Model
We use single-cluster Monte Carlo simulations to study the role of topological defects in the three-dimensional classical Heisenberg model on simple cubic lattices of size up to 803. By applying reweighting techniques to time series generated in the vicinity of the approximate infinite volume transition point Kc, we obtain clear evidence that the temperature derivative of the average defect den...
متن کاملTopological Zero Modes in Monte Carlo Simulations
We present an improvement of global Metropolis updating steps, the instanton hits, used in a hybrid Monte Carlo simulation of the two-flavor Schwinger model with staggered fermions. These hits are designed to change the topological sector of the gauge field. In order to match these hits to an unquenched simulation with pseudofermions, the approximate zero mode structure of the lattice Dirac ope...
متن کاملQuantum gravity in terms of topological observables
We recast the action principle of four dimensional General Relativity so that it becomes amenable for perturbation theory which doesn’t break general covariance. The coupling constant becomes dimensionless (GNewtonΛ) and extremely small 10 . We give an expression for the generating functional of perturbation theory. We show that the partition function of quantum General Relativity can be expres...
متن کاملQuantum fluctuations around low-dimensional topological defects
In these Lectures a method is described to analyze the effect of quantum fluctuations on topological defect backgrounds up to the one-loop level. The method is based on the spectral heat kernel/zeta function regularization procedure, and it is first applied to various types of kinks arising in several deformed linear and non-linear sigma models with different numbers of scalar fields. In the se...
